Epididymis
The Epididymis consists of the following:
- Duct of epididymis is a highly coiled tube (4-6m long). It is divided into the head, body, and tail. It allows for further sperm maturation. Sperms spend about 12 days in the epididymis to mature. Sperms become motile here.
- Smooth muscle and connective tissues covering
- Associated blood vessels
In the head and most of the epididymis smooth muscle is a single layer. In the tail, the inner and outer longitudinal layers are added. All three layers are continuous with those of the ductus deferens. Muscle contractions force sperm into the ductus deferens.
